History
The Smoltz-Grissom Wood Bat Classic was created by Atlanta
Braves pitcher John Smoltz and former Brave Marquis Grissom.
Founded in 1999 and operated by the Fulton County Parks & Recreations, the Smoltz-Grissom Wood Bat Classic is a
tournament that gives amateur youth teams the opportunity
to play baseball and softball like they do in the big leagues,
by playing with wood bats.
From its humble beginnings as a local tournament held at Fulton County Parks in the Metro
Atlanta area to its constant growing success as a national
stage for youth from all over the country to play and showcase
their talent, the Smoltz-Grissom Wood Bat Classic is the environment
every child and parent wants to be in. This year, Marquis
Grissom in conjunction with Fulton County Parks & Recreations will oversee and place his personal touch on the tournament
through the Marquis Grissom Baseball Association, Inc.
The tournament is held in Atlanta, GA, will feature almost
200 teams, ranging in ages from 8 to 18! Tournament proceeds
will fund scholarships and baseball programs for economically
disadvantaged young people.
The Smoltz-Grissom Wood Bat Classic is played in the pride
of the South, exciting Atlanta, GA. Come out and be a part
of this years event which promises to be a classic.
